How Do I Clean A Previously Owned Maring Band Harmonica

  1. Long story short, I need my harmonica disinfected. Like, exterior and inside totally cleaned. How can I practise it without damaging the reeds or any other part of it?
  2. I'd just buy another ane.
  3. Lysol disinfectant spray. Light glaze. permit sit a minute. Wipe dry. Buy new harmonica
  4. Is information technology similar a Hohner Marine Band harmonica, with a wooden comb? If and then the wood volition not bad if you go it wet. If it'southward plastic no worries. Y'all should exist able to take it apart to go to the insidey bits.
  5. It'due south a Hohner Dejection Band. And so it was just similar five bucks just I still don't wanna just toss it and buy another.
  6. The best fashion is to take information technology apart clean the shell, reeds and comb the reassemble.
  7. My grandpa's friend is a harmonicist and told me the all-time method (aside from taking it completely autonomously) is to put it in warm water with denture cleaner in information technology and let information technology soak for an hour, and then cascade hydrogen peroxide through it, and so rinse that out with water and allow it air dry. I simply put it in the denture cleaner water.
  8. H2O2 will kill whatever living thing inside and outside of a harmonica.
  9. What happened to it? Did you drop it in the toilet?
  10. Hohner BBs sell for over $32.00, and so don't take it then lightly!

The BB has a wooden comb and must NEVER exist soaked in liquids.

The 'old guys' will tell you soak them in bourbon or beer - but that's an erstwhile wive's tale. That simply swells the rummage and when information technology dries back out, it will air leak desperately if it doesn't just fall apart!

Have it apart and clean the private parts - but do NOT bend the reeds or you will ruin them.

Employ whatever disinfectant yous like - I apply alcohol - simply you can utilise hydrogen peroxide and rinse with a slight bleach solution later on and then lots of fresh water - but go along the comb out of those things.

Sunshine and fresh air volition kill anything that might be in information technology - just if it is over 90 days since anyone played information technology - well-nigh bacterial viability is gone anyway. If non all of the little critters are dead.

  11. H[SUB]ii[/SUB]O[SUB]2[/SUB].

I'd only eddy it in isopropyl booze. Then buy a new harp.

  12. I'd just get a Hohner Special 20 or a Delta Frost/Suzuki Harpmaster and exist done with it. The Blues Ring isn't really good anyway, it makes it harder to sound skillful. :x
  13. You, my friend, are talking about a completely dissimilar harp. This harp is all metal and plastic and does NOT sell for $32 unless they're shipping it to you in Nigeria.
  14. PS: already soaked it and poured hydrogen peroxide through it. It's fine.
  15. OOps! My bad - I saw Blues Band and jumped at it - I was thinking Blues Harp and that'southward where I went. That's what happens when I don't take my medications.

Sorry - eddy one of those $1.98 harps all y'all want - they are fifty-fifty child-proof.

The Special 20 is a nice harp - a picayune hard to find in GC - but they curve well. I think ane of the easier benders is the Dejection Harp - only the Crossover is really the best bender I've found. I learned to bend the Big Rivers, and notwithstanding have a bunch of them.

Once you tin bend, you can pretty much bend whatever harp - even one of those GLHs from Hohner.

I've got a GLH from Frg - then you know how former that 1 is! The current model is Chinese.

  16. Or, let it dry out out thoroughly for a week or so, selection it up and play it! :D
  17. Fire: information technology is the the only way...
  18. In the recent hurricane Florence flooding, my purse with about 15 harps in got soaked by inundation waters. How best to sanitize that many harps??. Very costly to supercede. nosotros evacuated before the winds started. Didn't look the h2o to rise similar it did.
  19. If they were mine this is what I'd exercise.

Wooden comb - pitch it. At that place's no telling what's in the alluvion h2o that could have permeated the forest.

Plastic or metal comb - disassemble and wash with lather and water. Being a germaphobe I'd make up a solution of say 5ppm chlorine soak the parts for a few minutes, rinse in make clean h2o, dry and reassemble.

Here's a estimator to help make chlorine sanitizing solution from household bleach. Y'all don't need a really potent solution. Too strong and it could feasibly damage components.
    Chlorine Dilution Reckoner
